Carved Stone Ball

Carved stone ball found by Robert Dick. Carved stone balls date from the late Neolithic - Bronze Age (3500 - 1500 BC). More than 425 carved stone balls have been found, mostly in Scotland. Most carved stone balls are decorated with knobs. Sometimes the knobs and the spaces between them are decorated with an incised pattern and occasionally the whole ball is decorated with a single design. Their purpose is unknown but they may have been prestige objects. Museum Number: CAIMS: ARC 6 Reproduced By Kind Permission Of Caithness Horizons Collections Trust
