Chew on that!

This section of tree trunk has been chewed by a beaver. Beavers are totally herbivorous (an animal which eats plant matter). The beaver was once widespread across Britain up until the 16th Century but became extinct primarily through over hunting. Roy Dennis is a firm believer in the restoration of lost species to their natural range and has campaigned to help bring about their re-introduction. The beaver is one of SNH's Species for Conservation Action under the Species Action Framework and within the next five years, beavers will be re-introduced at at least one site in Scotland.
