Eider Duck

Eider ducks nest on the ground. They rely on the intricate patterning of brown plumage and their ability to 'freeze' in the presence of danger. By doing this they hope to remain unnoticed and avoid detection by a predator.
With extreme care to avoid disturbing them, eiders will often allow quite close approach while incubating. Laurie has made a strong composition of the birds head against the mottled backdrop of its camouflaged plumage, maintaining a distance from the bird by using a telephoto lens.
