Geological fieldwork

This photograph shows a geological survey party out on field work in the early part of the 20th Century. The party includes one of the Geological Survey's photographers who is man-handling his plate camera in preparation for use. On the right is John Horne, complete with leather survey case and in his right hand, partly obscured, is his geological hammer - which you can see in the Highland Naturalists exhibition. © British Geological Survey
