Lantern Slides

Seton's lectures illustrated with lantern slides are legendary. His audiences ranged from the leaders of the country - he once delivered a talk for charity at 10 Downing Street - to school children and local groups. Lantern slides are of course fragile - they are made of a 'sandwich' of two pieces of thin glass - one of them bearing the impression of the picture. They were projected by a lantern projector which used the magnified flame of a candle as a light source. Think of that the next time you settle down to a Powerpoint presentation !
